North Macedonia for 6,000 CZK: A Low-Cost Road Trip, Budget, and Prices

We managed to spend six days in North Macedonia for approximately 6,000 CZK per person.

And that wasn't just the price for a flight and a hotel.The total price includes practically all the essentials:

• Round-trip flights
• A rental car
• Accommodation
• Gas
• Food

For us, North Macedonia was one of the cheapest trips abroad we have ever taken. Yet, we definitely didn't feel like we had to restrict ourselves in any major way.

6 Days for Around 6,000 CZK per Person

Overall, the trip cost us approximately:

6,000 CZK per person.

For six days of traveling, that comes out to about:
1,000 CZK per person per day.

And that includes transport to the country, accommodation, and traveling by car around North Macedonia. Of course, it depends on the dates, flight prices, type of accommodation, and style of travel. Therefore, don't take our total as a price everyone must get.

It is simply an example of how much it cost us to travel through North Macedonia.

Flights – The Foundation of a Cheap Trip

A large part of the success of a trip like this comes down to cheap flights. For European destinations, we believe it pays off to monitor prices continuously and not be fixed on just one specific date. If you manage to find a cheap connection, a six-day trip abroad can be surprisingly inexpensive.

In our case, the flights were one of the main reasons we managed to keep the overall budget so low.

We Rented a Car on the Spot

We wanted to travel through North Macedonia, not stay in one place the whole time.That is why we rented a car. And this is where we experienced one of the easiest rental car pickups ever.

We booked the car through DiscoverCars, and the pickup process was practically seamless:

keys, basic information, and we were good to go.What surprised us even more?

We didn't pay any security deposit.

Not a single crown.That is definitely not a given. For instance, during another trip of ours to Bulgaria, we had to leave a deposit of about 17,000 CZK.

Conditions can vary significantly depending on the specific country and rental agency.

Therefore, when booking a car, we always recommend checking not only the rental price but also:

• The deposit amount
• Insurance conditions
• Fuel policy
• Rental agency ratings
• Payment card terms

Gas? Another Pleasant Surprise

A rental car naturally meant gas expenses as well. However, when travel costs are split between two people, the final amount per person is not dramatic at all. Plus, the car allowed us to see much more than we would have by traveling solely on public transport.We could customize our route, stop along the way, and reach places outside the main tourist hubs.

Accommodation in North Macedonia

Was Very CheapAnother item that kept the budget low was accommodation. And this is where North Macedonia is on a completely different level compared to some Western European destinations. For the amount you would pay for a single night in a basic hotel in certain European cities, you can stay significantly longer in North Macedonia.

We looked for accommodation as usual through booking portals, choosing mainly based on:

price + location + ratings.We weren't looking for a luxury resort.

We just needed a clean, well-located place to sleep before continuing our journey the next morning.

Accommodation per person for the whole trip: 1,200 CZK

Food Didn't Break the Bank Either

Food is another reason why North Macedonia can be highly appealing to budget travelers. We didn't have to survive on supermarket rolls for six days.
We ate out normally and tried the local cuisine.

And to us, that is an important part of traveling.
If we couldn't taste the local food just to keep the budget as low as possible, the trip wouldn't make much sense to us.

Despite this, we managed to keep the overall expenses very low. Plus, some of our accommodations even included breakfast! :)

Total: Approximately 6,000 CZK per Person

Of course, the two of us didn't spend the exact same amount down to the last penny. We look at this as an approximate budget for the entire trip, calculated per person.What surprised us the most about the prices in North Macedonia?

Probably the overall value for money.For around six thousand crowns per person, we:

flew abroad, traveled for six days, had a rental car, stayed in accommodations, ate well, and explored the country.

That is an amount you can very easily spend in just a few days right here in the Czechia.

And that is precisely why we remember North Macedonia as one of the trips with the absolute best ratio of price to experiences.

Can You Travel Even Cheaper?

Probably, yes.

If you were to:

• Find an even cheaper flight
• Travel without a car
• Choose only the lowest-priced accommodations
• Cook your own meals
• Travel in a larger group

you could likely bring the price down even further.

But that is not our style of travel. We don't want to set a record for the cheapest vacation at all costs. We want to travel comfortably, see as much as possible, and at the same time, avoid spending money unnecessarily.And North Macedonia allowed us to combine all three.

Is North Macedonia Suitable for Budget Travel?

Based on our experience, absolutely yes. The combination of relatively cheap accommodation, food, and the ability to travel by car makes it a highly attractive destination.

On top of that, you get mountains, lakes, history, cities, and a Balkan vibe that, in our opinion, is still not as overcrowded with tourists as many better-known parts of Europe.

We definitely want to return to Macedonia in the future, as it deserves much more time to explore. And those mountains… they are breathtaking.
